Raymond Pairan: Author of Science Fiction Novels

A fiery, alien landscape with glowing lava and jagged rock formations under a dramatic sky.

Emotionally Immersing My Readers

Transferring readers directly into the emotional landscape of the story.

A UFO crashes into a desert, causing fire and smoke.

Crafting Quality Books

A momentous journey to an entirely realistic, emotional, and fully human experience.

A group of people in dark clothing seated around a glowing round table in a dimly lit room.

Sheer Profit is NOT My Motivation

My single goal is to author masterpieces that are the touchstone of perfection.

Raymond Pairan

Raymond Pairan Jr. refrains from adding the "Jr." suffix because he views it as superfluous and prefers to be known simply as Ray Pairan or Raymond Pairan. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, he spent most of his childhood in Miami, Florida. He currently lives in Ogden, Iowa, with his wife, Diana. A quiet, shy intellectual who never seeks notoriety, he enjoys the simple life, pounding away on his computer keyboard writing Sci-Fi novels, camping, landscape photography, singing, baking, and cooking.

From 1979 - 1987, Raylan was the Frontman for the alt-rock group  Zillias, playing primarily in renowned South Florida Miami area clubs.  Zillias was similar in style to Duran Duran and Depeche Mode, verging on  alternative, with venues in the more avant-garde club scene, such as  Club Deco-1235 (Miami Beach), Casanovas (Hialeah), Club Nu (Miami Beach),  and Facade (Miami).

After graduating from Northern Kentucky University in 1995 with a BS in Economics and a concentration in accounting, while working full-time for Cincinnati Central Credit Union, Ray was quickly thrust into the publishing industry as a Production Coordinator at Day Dream Publishing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Always having an aptitude for programming since taking a high-school after-class Fortran programming course, he was immediately shifted to programming production systems. After a few years, Ray went on to program accounting systems at Howard W. Sams and Macmillan Publishing in Indianapolis, Indiana, both prominent book publishers at the time.

FATHER OF FULLY FUNCTIONAL AND DEPLOYED ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) IN 2005

Using advanced object-oriented languages like Java and C++ to develop fail-safe, critical, and fault-tolerant AI systems for firms such as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Leidos, Ray's journey into the outer reaches of the unknown started by peeling away layer after layer of the reality that was the foundation of conventional society. At Boeing in Houston, Texas, in 2004, and then at Huntington Beach, California, beginning in 2005, his AI military systems designs at DARPA Future Combat Systems (FCS) fueled the adaptive intelligent capabilities that are inherent in the more primitive civilian AI neuron-based network learning designs. NLBIS, the first AI operational system in 2005, was his AI-driven synthetic environment for advanced military modeling, simulation, and tactical operations using computer-generated forces and predictive analytics within the FCS/SOSCOE Net-Centric Integration, and it never used cumbersome, slow neural networks characteristic of inferior civilian systems. In 2007, NLBIS was sent to Boeing Phantom Works Project Marti from the Huntington Beach, CA FCS Modeling and Simulation Laboratory. At Phantom Works, a senior-level Ph.D. researcher continued to use his fully functional foundation to offshoot other beyond-Top-Secret military AI systems.

WHY AI WILL NEVER SURPASS A HUMAN BEING'S INTELLECTUAL CAPABILITIES

Ray's research and development of the first AI quickly taught him that it was a great tool, but would never replace the sloppy neuron structures of organics. Human beings build far too perfect machines; we are an organized species that dislikes the disunity of messy complexity. It is the imperfections in biologically derived organs and natural structures that make them resilient, adaptive, and, in the case of our brain, impossible to duplicate in chaotic complexity, adaptability, and multiple neuron-fire unpredictability.

Even during his programming years, Ray would work into the night writing essays for his blog and his two websites. Burning out from writing political and economic-based essays, Ray decided in 2008 to try his hand at writing a Sci-Fi novel, Zalon Kingdom - The Invaders Arrive.

From 2011 - 2012, Ray Pairan (a.k.a. Raylan Cooper) focused on recording new music in the studio and getting it on the radio, such as Radio Roquette Pinto 94.1 FM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Latvia Public Media. Raylan earned a 5-STAR rating on Music2Deal. Raylan was regularly  featured on WPRK's Local Heroes, a radio show on 91.5 FM (Orlando)  every Wednesday from 5 pm-7 pm, also played on 91.5 FM in the greater  Orlando, Florida, area. Raylan was the Featured Artist for seven days on  MyCountrySpace. Raylan held the #1 Vocalist position on Music2Deal.  Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame recipient and President of Colt Records, J. K. Coltrain, asked Raylan to attend the 7th Country Star Showcase held on Thursday, June 9, 2016, during CMA Fest in Nashville at the renowned Limelight in Nashville.

When he was laid off in May 2020 from Infosys as a Senior Technology Architect during COVID, Ray founded his own company, Pairan Technology, to develop revolutionary standalone Java applications. After a year of 12-14-hour days spent developing these systems, he was determined never to write a line of programming code again. One quiet night, Ray resolved to devote his remaining years to authoring Sci-Fi novels.

Ray Pairan is the author of Ancient Crafters of Civilization, Convict Space Explorer: Voyages Across Insectoid Controlled Outer Space, Zalon Kingdom - The Invaders Arrive, Saldora, Silence on the Plains, Edge of Universe - Zalon Kingdom Series, Escape from Planet Qualish - Zalon Kingdom Series, The Road to Microservice Architecture, and Freedom Inequality and Decency (a collection of his best essays, pulled from publication).
