Serious movies and books should have the following characteristics:
- Stories must be believable without any fantasy elements corrupting the stark realism of the plot and settings.
- Profound realism needs to be relatable to readers and audiences so that they can place themselves in the unfolding story.
- Consequences beyond their control severely impact the lives of many people.
- Juxtapose normalcy with freak and challenging occurrences.
- Action should flow from start to finish, holding readers and audiences in a vise grip of moods and tones.
- Characters should be believable and relatable.
- Central characters should have well-developed backstories.
- Backstories should be relatable and create an emotional bond with the majority of readers and audiences.
- A full spectrum of human emotions should play across the pages or the screen.
- The theme should convey an underlying powerful message.
- A Book or movie should radiate from the dénouement, leaving the reader or audience in a state of emotional reflection that lasts long after the book or movie is finished.
- A powerful, emotionally charged dénouement is the central component of a lasting masterpiece that transcends generational differences.
